Creating various gaming website templates that game industry clients can take a look at showcasing samples of what the team can do
Project type: Web design, Graphic design
Tools: Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Inkscape, Slack
Duration: 2021
Background
As a passionate gamer, a console and pc gamer, creating this brings so much joy to my inner child. These webpage gaming templates are what I designed for the gaming industry clients that might want to avail the services of team that I am part of during that time. Included on this compilation are some of the actual clients that I had a participation designing their webpages such as Metawars, Three Kingdoms, ArcadeLand and PolyLauncher.
This project started when the pandemic started. The team and the company saw an influx of games across the globe on both console, pc and mobile. We basically rode this trend of increase in the gaming population and decided to design few webpages that can serve as a look book that gaming brands and companies might want to see.
The Challenges
Should design these webpages with users that are familiar with NFT and Crypto space as my target market? Or do I try to target new players to increase the population?
How do I entice users to try the game? What are the common factors that current NFT and Crypto games has that worked great?
User Research
The user research that I did was mainly from my own experience with playing games since I was 7. I’ve had the opportunity to get my hands on my few consoles and computer when I was a kid. The idea that I have designing these webpages is by incorporating heroic, adventure and dramatic aspects of games in general to my designs simply because these are what I’ve found appealing. But later on, I managed to get some form of evidence that supports my approach:
When I move in Japan I visited the arcade quite a lot, playing games and just seeing what’s in it. Then I saw great detailed figures of anime that I love like One Piece, Boku No Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen and Dragonball Z. Now for some reason I was drawn to Dragonball even though their figure are not really that impressive compared to the other anime. I paused and wondered why I was drawn on playing the crane games just to get a Dragonball Z figure. Then I remembered that this anime was my childhood and I had great memories watching this as a child and admiring their adventures.
Japan is a matcha and green tea industry, coffee has no place here. So I did a little digging about it’s history. Apparently, Nestle played a big role for coffee industry entering the Japan market. They started introducing coffee as a drink but didn’t got a big audience. They changed strategy and played the long game. They introduced coffee flavored candies catered towards children and later on became the foundation of the coffee drinkers nowadays.
The Results
In order for me to design webpages for NFT, Crypto and games as a whole, I have to know what makes gaming enticing to users. And I figured out two things:
Everyone had thought of having their own adventures as a kid, admiring the adventures of their favorite games, movie and characters, enacting sword fighting and placing their selves into the shoes of the characters they admired from these games or movies.
The currencies used on these games are volatile which makes enticing new players extremely difficult. Therefore, I had to tap to the gamer mindset of users to be able to design these wonderful webpages and “remove” these play-to-earn mindset and just let the users enjoy the game.
